You may have noticed a couple of Heidi Schrock’s wines in the shop, and that’s because she has been essential in honoring traditional Austrian methods and varietals. She took over her family winery in 1983, in the historic village of Rust, situated in the province of Burgenland about five miles from the Hungarian border. Heidi’s wines are similar to the woman herself: generous and friendly, yet elegant in their grace. Her Blaufrankisch is exactly what you would hope and expect, juicy and spicy, with classic complex peppers and molten dark chocolate, it’s structured and driven. It’s time that you got to know and love this grape!
