Lemberger is a fun grape, one that we sadly don’t see very often, and one that does well in the Red Mountain AVA of Washington. Kiona was the first winery to produce a commercially available wine from the grape in the 80’s, and they have been running with it ever since. The wine shows lovely floral notes of orange zest and wildflowers that lead us into blue fruit notes. The heat of the area, different from where it’s usually grown, means we get a wine that is much more structured and full doling out more blue fruits and hints of earth and spice. An uncommon grape that deserves some attention.
