Abruzzo is a region, like its neighbors in Le Marche and Emilia-Romagna to the north, which is rediscovering its wine roots and pushing for quality over quantity. The elements are all there: a dry climate that benefits from the presence of both the mountains and the sea, well-placed clay and limestone vineyards, and winemakers that take pride in hand-crafted wines that express the strong Abruzzese personality. The Cantina Tollo cooperative winery is at the core of this appellation, boasting over 40 years of winemaking experience. The 'Valle d’Oro’ or ‘Valley of Gold’ is a voluptuously rich, impressively balanced 100% Montepulciano from 20-year-old vines aged for 12 months in large Slovenian oak. The nose is mixed with leather and incense as spicy tones of cloves and licorice waft from the glass. Medium-bodied yet generous and hearty, with notes of white pepper and the nectar of ripe black fruits.
