This particular wine, and this particular vintage, is getting a heck of a lot of press right now, and for good reason. These wines have that sharp, square Spanish sensibility about them, but are totally approachable and exciting. When you uncork this sucker, you’ll be greeted by a blast of smoke and forest floor notes that are almost reminiscent of a sanguine syrah - hints of iron and blood and minerality all rolled into one tannin ripping red. But there’s also a lot of freshness that will keep for the next few years if you’re the cellaring type. This is a wine that’s rewarding to drink now and will shine later, too. Get ready for firm tannins and a buffered, stone-dust texture. It’s savory and mineraly - a tasty paradox.
